William Dwight Briggs With his wife and three daughters at his side, Dwight Briggs entered heaven on Wednesday, September 25, 2013. He was 67. After a brave fight against pancreatic cancer, Dwight passed away peacefully in his home. A lifetime resident of Hanna, Dwight was born on May 3, 1946, in the Hanna Hospital to Elsie Delinger Briggs and Alex Briggs. He graduated from Hanna High School in 1964 and served in the Vietnam War in 1966-67. At the end of his service to his country, he was honorably discharged earning the rank of sergeant. As a Hanna Miner, Dwight excelled in football and basketball. His love of sports continued throughout his life as he remained a loyal fan to the HEM Miners, Wyoming Cowboys, Denver Broncos, and Kentucky Wildcats. A fifth generation coal miner, Dwight spent 41 years with the local mines and retired as Superintendent of Maintenance with Arch Coal. He is remembered as an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish, and camp with his family. Stalking elk with Ol' Blue (his 30.06 rifle) and hiking in to fish his favorite lakes in the Medicine Bow National forest were his favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed his time spent at Seminoe with his family and friends. Throughout his life, Dwight loved his time spent with his wife, daughters, and sons-in-law. He was a proud grandfather and adored his grandchildren. Dwight was "Pa" to many pets, and spent most of his final weeks watching Gunsmoke with his two dogs, Jake and Little Girl, by his side. Dwight is survived by his wife of 42 years, Susan; daughter Margaret Briggs; daughter Jackie Jones and husband Clif; daughter Sarah Jones and husband Rick; grandchildren Jason Dreher, Mackenzie Jones, and Landon Dwight Jones; brothers Alex Briggs (Sharon), Lonnie Briggs (Wendy), Orrill Briggs (Debbie), Robert Briggs (Penny), Bill Briggs (Wanda); several nieces and two nephews. A 4:00 viewing will precede the ceremony, and a military graveside service will take place immediately after the funeral at Dwight's final resting place, the Hanna Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to join in the celebration of Dwight's life with a gathering at the Baptist Church following graveside services.
