Vernon Pierce Black of Rawlins, Wyoming passed away on February 27th, 2024 at Central Wyoming Hospice in Casper at the age of 81. Vern was born on January 19th, 1943 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was the son of John & Lillie (Eaton) Black.
He married the love of his life Nancy Faylene Gordon on November 1st, 1962 in Rawlins.
Shortly after Vern worked as a machinist at Air Industries in Anaheim, California. Eventually making their way back to Wyoming, they made Osage home for a while.
Finally settling back in Rawlins, Vern went to work for Neuman Transit as a truck driver where he earned his 2 million mile safe driving award, a belt buckle he proudly wore for over a decade. He then opened V&V Salvage. Vern had a lifelong love for his scrap yard, where he poured his passion and dedication. His commitment to his work was evident to all who knew him, and he took great pride in his craft. His scrap yard was not just a business but a reflection of his hard work and perseverance. A devoted “junk man”, Vern was respected and cherished by his customers. His generosity left an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of crossing paths with him.
Throughout his life, Vern touched the hearts of many with his kindness, wisdom and unwavering love. He will be remembered for his friendly and helpful nature, always ready to lend a hand and brighten someone's day. He loved nothing more than spending time with others, cherishing every moment of companionship and conversation even if you had to ask him to repeat himself a few times. He loved spending time with his family and friends. His laughter, guidance and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. Vern will forever be in our hearts, and his legacy will continue to inspire us.
To the plentiful supply of Prince Albert tobacco and coffee, may he rest in eternal peace.
