Thomas L. Cruz, 64, of Rawlins, WY passed away Wed. April 6, 2016 from complications of black lung disease. He was born July 12, 1951 in Rawlins, WY to Mary & Lawrence Cruz. Graveside services will be held on Sat. April 9, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in the Rawlins Cemetery followed by a luncheon reception at The Depot, 400 W. Front St. Rawlins. Tom graduated from West High School in Denver, CO in 1969. Following graduation, he was promptly promoted to management with Safelite Auto Glass. He returned home to Rawlins, WY a few years later where he worked for the City of Rawlins. He went on to Arch Mineral Company in Hanna and completed his working career with Carbon County Road and Bridge and Sinclair Pipeline. Tom thoroughly enjoyed working with heavy equipment and the challenges of bringing road to grade and laying pipe. He lived by the standard that it was the quality, not the quantity, of work that mattered. Everything had to be the top of the line. He is survived by his mother, Mary Avila of Denver CO; daughter, Annette (John) Laverman of Aspen CO; grandchildren, Pierce Cintron, Casey Laverman and Katherine Laverman; the most special people in his life, Vicky, Samantha and Jessica Sanchez; brothers, Jim (Trish) Cruz, Steve (Tracy) Cruz, Andy Cruz and Willie Avila; sisters, Blanca (Alex) Armenta and Lauretta (Mike) Sheller; numerous beloved nieces and nephews, specifically Colt and Chanel Cruz and Brittany Fawn Cruz/Renteria; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and irreplaceable friends, especially the Abeyta family . He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his father, Lawrence Cruz; and beloved brother; John Cruz. He will be remembered as a father figure and a friend to many. Young and old alike were comfortable around him and inspired and supported by him. He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.
