Scott Matthew Kinniburgh, 70, of Saratoga, Wyoming passed away on August 27th, 2024, at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. Following a diagnosis of pulmonary fibrosis, he chose to face this challenge with courage.
Scott was born on August 18, 1954, in Rawlins, Wyoming, to parents Sophie and Stewart Kinniburgh, arriving on his sister Sandy’s third birthday. He was convinced he was the best present she ever received. The family moved from Rawlins to Saratoga when he was in junior high, and he graduated from Platte Valley High School in 1973. After high school and working a couple of local jobs Scott joined the U.S. Army in 1974 and was stationed in Germany attached to an artillery unit until 1976. After his discharge from the Army, he enrolled in the Welding Program at LCCC. Upon returning to Saratoga, he met and married his sweetheart and best friend Debbie Stensaas, on August 19, 1978. Scott was a welder for Arch Mineral #1 and spent 11 years welding on draglines. He completed his working career with 27 years at WYDOT. He retired in 2017, as the Saratoga Area Maintenance Supervisor, a job he genuinely loved.
Scott had many interests including spending time in his shop welding, reading, riding his side by side, but he was particularly fond of spending time in the mountains of Wyoming. He enjoyed hunting, but shed hunting became a passion. Ice fishing with all his buddies was one of the highlights of his retirement years. Ice fishing with his grandson and son-in-law were perfect days in Scott’s world. His family and friends will grieve for his kind and gentle heart and his amazing sense of humor.
Scott will be deeply missed by his wife Debbie of 46 years, his daughter Courtney, her husband Jeremy Smith (his bonus son), grandson McCade, recently born granddaughter Laken, brother-in-law Dennis Thaler, niece Brandy Evans, sisters-in-law, Norma Stensaas, Terry Stensaas, and Martha Stensaas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Stewart and Sophie Kinniburgh, sister Sandy Thaler, brothers-in-law, Lanny Stensaas, and Joe Stensaas.
Cremation has taken place, and a memorial service will be held on September 21st at 1:00 p.m. at the Saratoga Cemetery Chapel.
In remembrance of Scott, the family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to: Never Forget Park (P.O. Box 486, Saratoga, WY 82331) or to Saratoga Friends of the Library (P.O. Box 27, Saratoga, WY 82331).
