Ronald L. Knapp, 71, of Rawlins, passed away Jan. 6, 2012, at the Carbon County Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family, and knew how much he was loved when he passed. Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church in Rawlins on Sat. Jan. 14, 2012, at 2:00 p.m. Rev. John Nadasi will officiate. Ron was born in Rawlins on Apr. 21, 1940. He attended school in Rawlins and graduated in 1958. He served in the U.S. Armed Forces, where he was stationed overseas. Ron retired in July of 1998, after 30 years of employment with the Union Pacific Railroad. He enjoyed traveling, hunting, fishing and spending time at their cabin in the mountains with family and friends. Ron was united in marriage to Mavis on Dec. 16, 1962 at Christ Lutheran Church in Rawlins. He is survived by his wife, Mavis; their children: Alisa (Mark) Bailey of Whitewater, CO and Timothy (Lori) of Lafayette, CO; five grandchildren: Ty Knapp, Ashley Colschen, and Devin, Donovan, and McKenzie McDermott; two great-grandchildren: James and Amara; sisters: Shirlee (Don) Nichols and Sue (Tom) Matthews, both of CO; numerous nieces, nephews and family; and all the many children the Knapp's opened their hearts and home to. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother; a sister and brother-in-law; and by a grandson, Azi Knapp. Rostad Mortuary is assisting the family with cremation and the family will hold a private burial at a later date.
