Roger Root

Roger Dewayne Root was born January 30, 1944 to Ivan and Ida (Skinner) Root in Ogallala, NE. He passed away Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Memorial Hospital of Carbon County in Rawlins, WY. He graduated from Big Springs High School in 1962. He entered the US Army during the Vietnam Era and served our country proudly, stationed in Germany. He then studied Earth Science at Chadron State College in Chadron, NE. He met his best friend, partner and wife Karen Pegg on February 14, 1988 when he gave her a quarter tip for a cup of coffee. They married December 29, 1990 in California. Roger and his family moved to California in April 1989 to pursue his beloved career in Engineering, working for Centennial Engineering, Washington Engineering and S&C Engineering as a Project Manager. He retired in 2009. Roger loved to ride his Harley and sing karaoke. In 2010, Roger and Karen moved to Hanna, WY in hopes of hunting and fishing, but his failing health prevented him from doing those activities. Roger enjoyed driving the county side and hunting rocks. He is survived by his wife of 27 years Karen Root of Hanna, WY; children, Sandi and Dennis Widener of McCook, NE, Roger Jr. and Elisa Root of Citrus Heights, CA, Renee Watson of Rocklin, CA, Dale and Angel Jones of Vacaville, CA, Ryan and Sarah Root of Los Angeles, CA and Kelly and Mary Root of Hanna, WY; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Aaron and Tracy Luce, Rylee, Brodee and Colter of Gering, NE, A.J. and Rikki Luce of McKenzie, Maxwell, NE, Cory and Kristen Root of Fayetteville, NC, Kristyn Root of Fayetteville, NC, Matthew, Cameron and Chloe of Citrus Heights, CA, Riley and Ava Watson of Rocklin, CA, Kiley Jones of Hanna, WY, Nathaniel, BJ, Traven and Zayden of Vacaville, CA, Aliynah and Ryan Root of Sacramento, CA, Tawnya Root of Hanna, WY, Chance Widener of NV and Hannah Widener of Norton, KS; father and mother-in-law, Ed and Thelma Pegg; numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews, Brenda Pinkeston, Eddie Pegg, Timmy Pegg, David Pegg, Jeannie Ball, Randy and Louise Root, Wendy and Steve Pecoraro, and their families; special friends, Jessica, Wyatt, Amber and Janice; the North County Riders and his S&C Engineering Family; and his faithful friend, Jake Owen Root, his chocolate lab. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Donald & Rusty Root; and brother and sister-in-law, Russell and Wilma Root of MO.
