Rocky Moon

Our beloved mother, wife, sister and aunt has been called home. Rochelle "Rocky" Moon, 74, of Rawlins, passed away April 17, 2018. She was born to parents Martha and Gordon Mason of Rawlins on June 18, 1943. Our mother was born and raised in Rawlins. She was part of the Johnson/Swanson sheep ranch. She also lived in Venezuela for a short time. She retired from the Carbon County School district after 37 years. She enjoyed watching all "her students" grow up through the years and start families of their own. Rocky belonged to the Heritage Club, where she enjoyed many travels and plays with her sister, Donna. A few times a week Mom met with her water aerobics class, the PEO, the Red Hats and her Thursday coffee with the ladies at McDonald's. Our mother never spoke an unkind word about anybody and she always wore a beautiful smile on her face. One of mom's favorite people, Barbara Bush said, "At the end of your life, you will never regret not having passed one more test, not winning one more verdict or not closing one more deal. You will regret time not spent with a husband, a friend, a child or a parent." Rocky always put her family first and will be greatly missed at the family cabin and on the family hunting trips by her husband of 57 years, Lonnie; her two sons and their wives, Robert and Stacey and William and Dianne; along with five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Donna Thompson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, Gordon Mason, her mother, Martha and stepfather, Bill Burckhalter; her step-sister, Barbara Peeples; and her step-brother, Clark Burckhalter. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins. Rev. Karen Buckingham will be officiating. Interment will follow in the Rawlins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers or plants, our family would like to request that you make a donation to the Cathedral Home for Children at 4989 N 3rd St, Laramie, WY 82072, or the charity of your choice, in Rocky's name.
