It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Richard D. Hays. Richard passed away suddenly and unexpectedly. He passed away enjoying the sunshine, while visiting with some of his closest friends.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 44 years, Connie Hays. He is also survived by his three children: Daughter, Jamie Gibson of Lake Winnebago, MO along with her husband, Michael, children, Bailey Lampton(Jarrett Stastny) and Brayden Lampton. Son: Greg Axtell of Elgin, IL, along with his wife, Kristen Axtell, and their children, Amanda Axtell, Isabella Axtell, and Jackson Axtell. Daughter: Trinity Thatcher of Laramie, WY along with her husband, Trevor Thatcher, and their children, Thayne Thatcher and Taylor Thatcher. Also survived by his two brothers: Ronald Fahlstrom of Smithville, MO and Robert W. Hays & Sister in Law Valerie R. Hays of Bullhead City, AZ , along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Richard and Connie were married October 17th, 1980. They moved from Missouri to Wyoming in 1984 to start their life in ranching. In 1986, they moved to Saratoga to work for the McIIvaine Family on the Lazy River Ranch. Before his retirement, he worked at Shively Hardware for over 30 years. Shively's was his favorite place to be. Even in retirement, you could find him there visiting with friends.
Richard loved hunting but his passion was walleye fishing at Seminoe. He never met a stranger-his warm personality and willingness to lend a hand made him a beloved member of the Saratoga community. Whether sharing stories by a campfire, or helping a neighbor with a home repair, he was always willing to offer his wisdom to others.
Richard dearly loved his family, most of all his precious Grandchildren. They were truly the light of his life. He took great pride in the time he spent with all of his family.
Richard's presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever remain in the woods, the water, and in the hearts of all of those who loved him.
Richard's family wants to thank you for the love and support you have shown them. He had so many wonderful friends. He loved all of you so very much.
