Phyllis Jean Winzenried, of Rawlins, passed away peacefully Sept. 7, 2017, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, Albert. She is survived by her daughters, Diane (Mark) Carpenter and Shelly Riester; five grandchildren, Lynn (Anders) Messersmith, Amber (Mark) Oxley, Krista Riester and Kevin and Brian Carpenter; and two great-granddaughters. Phyllis was raised in Evanston by her parents, Albert and Josephine Murray, and graduated from the University of Wyoming. She married Albert Winzenried on June 14, 1953. She taught home economics in Saratoga for two years, then at Rawlins High School for 25 years. Phyllis was a 50-year member of the Order of Eastern Star in Evanston, a lifetime member of Daughters of the Nile and a very active member of the sewing group, assembling hundreds of quilts donated to the Shriners Crippled Children's hospitals. She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church (Rawlins Community Parrish). She and Al enjoyed their cabin at Ryan Park, their yard and garden, spending winters in Mesa, Arizona, and traveling with the RNB Heritage Club. Services will be at 1 p.m. Sept. 12 at the Rawlins Community Parrish. In lieu of flowers, donations in Phyllis' memory are welcomed by Order of Eastern Star Rawlins Chapter 7 and Rawlins Community Parrish.
