Nancy Loudon

Last Tuesday, 2/22/22, an extraordinary wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandma, daughter-in-law, friend, mentor, and giving member of the community for over 45 years, took her last breath on this earth. Nancy L. Loudon was born on January 18, 1956, to Harriett M. and John F. Carlson in Wayne, Nebraska. She passed away to God’s flawlessness surrounded by her loving husband Kenny and daughters Kristen and Kassidie.

Nancy attended all her school years in Rawlins graduating from Rawlins High School in 1974. She returned to the Carbon County School District as an employee to serve students with exceptional needs from 1991 to 2015. She was very involved in Jobs Daughters and various fund raisers for students.  Nancy was known to send her husband and daughter to buy all the hats and gloves Walmart had for the kids at school that did not have any to wear. A very generous woman and committed to her community.

Nancy married Kenny B. Loudon, the love of her life, in 1976 at the First Methodist Church in Rawlins, Wyoming. She gave birth to her first daughter, Kristen, in 1981 and her second daughter, Kassidie in 1984. She is survived by her husband of 46 years Kenny Loudon of Rawlins. Her daughter Kristen Loudon of Rawlins, Wyoming. Her daughter Kassidie Neild, son-in-law Steve Neild and grandson Wyatt Neild all of Cinnaminson, New Jersey. Her mother-in-law Sox Loudon of Rawlins, Wyoming. Brother Jon Carlson of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Sister Susan Lewton of Loveland, Colorado.

Nancy was preceded in death by her father John F. Carlson and her mother Harriett M. Carlson.

Nancy was known for many things living her life in Rawlins. Nancy was well known for her heavy-duty Girl Scout cookie drives and deliveries. Often times needing more than one pickup truck to make the deliveries.

Her theme parties and pranks were epic in nature ranging from Flamingo inspired birthday parties to her western themed sing along get togethers. Her prison break party for her mom’s retirement from the Department of Corrections drew statewide attention.

Nancy was notorious for her wicked sense of humor, sarcasm, and outrageously quick and sharp comebacks. She is famous for the giant pair of underwear stuck on the basketball hoop at school during a snow day when all the students had to gather in the gym. She decorated the penthouse at Pershing Elementary with a green velvet recliner and a swinging Elvis clock. What a happy lunch spot.

Nancy absolutely loved a good board, dice game or word game. Her skills for score keeping in the card game “Phase 10” earned her legendary status and national certification. It also instilled fear in her fellow players as playing the wrong card against Nancy could very well earn you an additional 100 points.  She called it “score keepers’ pleasure.”  She would not allow anyone else to keep score.

Gas station cappuccinos were a favorite of Nancy and her car cruising girlfriends. Rumor has it that the vehicles all had a perpetual coffee smell embedded in the upholstery and no one could make one cup last longer than Becky and Jan.

Christmas was a favorite time for Nancy. She loved making Christmas stockings but had a special passion for Christmas bears. That passion included riding through town kidnapping said bears that happen to be on display around town. Her enthusiasm for kidnapping the bears earned her more than one mention on the police scanner and a few visits from local law enforcement over the years. Please return the bear Mrs. Loudon.  It belongs to the mayor.

For all the rightly deserved reputations Nancy earned, most would say her crowning achievement would have to be becoming a founding member and active performer for the world famous and highly coveted “River Dancing Mamas.”  A dream of hers since childhood.

Nancy was a friend to many, counselor to some, a joke factory for all of us, and a random singer of songs. Most importantly a fantastic wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and daughter. She will be greatly missed but forever loved. Rest in Peace Nancy. We all love you.
