Melton M. Newell, Sr. passed away on October 19, 2017. A lifetime resident of Rawlins, WY, he was born to Lillian (Olson) and Paul Newell on October 28, 1936. Melton had a passion for working and being outdoors. He grew up working in his grandfather's sheep business and was a foreman for Great Divide Sheep Company. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for many years. He was also a skilled carpenter who had a passion for working with wood. He derived great joy from doing remodeling, home building, fixing a toy, or creating a work of art. He was a proud member of the Rawlins Volunteer Fire Department and a Life Member of Elks Club #609. Melton was married to Alice (Pate) Garvin on April 14, 1958, and a new chapter of his life began when he married his school mate, Carolyn Gettman on June 30, 1991. Melton was preceeded in death by his wife, Carolyn; son, Melton M. Newell, Jr.; and grandson, Scott A. Beach. Melton is survived by his daughters, Anna (Jeffery) Beach and Sonja (Andrew) Sparks; step-son, Merv (Sue) Gettman; granddaughter, Melissa (Jason) Fraser; step-grandchildren, Dezi (Chad) Palmer and Matt (Orianna) Gettman; and many great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Rawlins Cemetery with Rev. Karen Buckingham officiating.
