Martin Albert Pedersen passed away January 18, 2014 after bravely fighting a long illness. Martin was born in Rawlins, Wyoming, December 2, 1946 to Rasmus and Ella Pedersen. He enjoyed a life full of friends, family, and activities. Martin graduated from Rawlins High School and soon began a career as a professional land surveyor, working for Robert Jack Smith and Associates, Inc, and eventually buying the business in 1974-he would retire from the business on September 14, 2012. Martin enjoyed Rawlins and the surrounding communities, and he was honored to serve on many boards and councils throughout the state. Many of his activities included holding the office of mayor and town councilman in Sinclair, Wyoming, a leader for the Boy Scouts of America in Rawlins, a board member for both Rawlins National Bank and Meridan Trust Federal Credit Union, and an active member in Christ Lutheran Church, Carbon County Search and Rescue, Rawlins Rotary Club (Past State President), Wyoming Professional Land Surveyors Association, Wyoming Engineering Society(Past President), Elks BPOE 609, and National Council of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors(Past President). Martin enjoyed traveling both in the United States and abroad. He made many professional and personal friendships during his travels. As an avid outdoorsman, Martin also engaged in boating, camping, fishing, hunting, photography, scuba diving, and skiing. Martin is survived by his wife Shelly, his three children David, Jennifer, and Hans, along with Shelly's four children Jeremy Perkins, Heather (Kyle) Garrett, Ryan Perkins , and Brooke (Quent) Gudahl, grandchildren Jesse, Calysta, Savannah , Elliot, Taya, Rylee, Kael, and Taylor. He is also survived by his brother Jim (Sandy) Pedersen of Cody, Wyoming, and Karen (Scott) Bloomenrader of Billings, Montana, along with several nieces and nephews. Services are scheduled for 12:00 PM, Saturday, January 25, 2014 at Christ Lutheran Church in Rawlins, Wyoming. Instead of flowers the family asks that donations be made to a cancer research charity, the Upper Platte Chapter of PLSW for scholarships , or to the Elks W.E.S.T. program in his name.
