Margaret Marie Mathill

Margaret Marie Mathill (Marie) was born December 12, 1920 near Gering, Nebraska (in the sandhills) at home. She passed away in Rawlins, Wyoming on February 10, 2024 at the age of 103.

            Her family left Nebraska during a four-year drought and moved to Lander, Wyoming in 1936. They started a dairy farm out on Snavely Lane between Lander and Hudson. She met and married Raymon (Butch) Mathill in 1938. To their union was born 5 children; three daughters born in Lander – Phyllis in 1941, Sharon in 1943 and Gloria in 1947. The family moved to Sheep Creek on Green Mountain for a short period of time in 1949, then to the 46 Ranch at the foot of Green Mountain in 1950 and then on to Bairoil in 1951. Two sons were born there – Rod in 1953 and Raymon (Butch) in 1956. They made their home there until 1969, with Raymon (Butch) working in the oil field. Marie never worked away from the home, remaining a homemaker, mother and grandmother.

            They moved to Rawlins in 1968 where they remained. She lost her husband of 56 years, Raymon, in 1995. In addition to her four children, she is survived by approximately 150 grand and great grandchildren with a few more on the way soon. She was preceded in death by her parents Ewald Leth and Ruth (Powell, Leth) Haynes; four brothers, Bob Leth, Harlen Leth, Dick Haynes and Jim Haynes; one daughter, Phyllis Meacham; one grandson, Travis Morgan and numerous other family members.

            A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Rawlins. Viewing will be at the church one hour prior. She will be laid to rest on Friday, February 23, 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander, Wyoming, next to her husband.
