Kent was born Dec. 6, 1948 to Amos and Dorothy Houge. He passed away on May 26, 2017 at the age of 68. Kent grew up in Okoboji, Iowa. He attended college in Estherville, Iowa, graduating with a degree in agriculture. He worked for the city of Spirit Lake, Iowa for many years. He was on the Okoboji Fire Department and was Fire Chief for 18 years. He was a member of the underwater dive and rescue team. He married Jann Dingman in Jackson, Minn. on June 10, 1993. They moved to Wheatland and started Houge Plumbing and Heating. In 2002 following heart surgery, they sold the business and moved to Rawlins. Kent was the maintenance supervisor at a nursing home for over 10 years. He retired from that and went to work at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in the maintenance department. In 2011 Kent moved to the Education Department and taught carpentry to inmates and was the Wood Shop Supervisor. He retired in 2015. He was a master at woodworking, a gourmet chef and a wonderful husband and father. He only had kind words to say about anybody. He was a gentle giant. He is survived by his wife, his two sons, Neal Houge from Okoboji, Iowa, Nick Houge and his wife Amy from Sioux Falls, S.D., his two step-children, Joshua Hanson and his wife Molly from Golden Valley, Minn., Tessa Harris and her husband Chad from Farmington, Minn. He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Caden and Katherine Houge, Mia and Simon Hanson and Hunter and Brayden Harris. He is also survived by his father-in-law, Don Dingman of Wheatland. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Marilyn, three brothers-in-law and their spouses and many nieces and nephews. He is leaving behind so many friends whose lives they touched. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, his parents and his mother-in-law. There will be a celebration of Kent's life on Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Washington Park in Rawlins, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
