Kaye Burdene Reeves began her long awaited rest February 11, 2018. Kaye was born March 21, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska to Paul and Hazel (Ingraham) Compton. Kaye grew up in Nebraska City, Nebraska, where in 1945 she met Airman Orval Reeves, home on furlough from serving in the European Theater in World War II. Kaye and Orval were married in Hiawatha, Kansas on August 21, 1945. They were married until Orval's passing in 1982. Into this family were born eight children: Hazel and Orval in Nebraska City, Karna in Hay Springs, Nebraska, Kristy in Rushville, Nebraska, Kevin, Jacque and James in Sidney, Nebraska, and Margaret in Rawlins, Wyoming, where the family settled in 1960, and Orval and Kaye spent the rest of their lives. Kaye was best known for her needlework, she made baby quilts for each of her grandchildren, great-grand children and even for her great-great grandchildren. She made wedding quilts, dolls, afghans and doilies by the hundreds. The quality and craftmanship of her work was unrivaled. Kaye's family and friends will treasure and enjoy her work for many years to come. Kaye also possessed the proverbial green thumb; outdoor gardening and indoor plants were a joy for her. Kaye never had an easy life, but her determination and stubbornness brought her through those tough times, mom was a survivor. Kaye lived a full life on her own terms, and went peacefully on to join those waiting expectantly for her on the other side. Kaye was preceded in death by her parents, husband Orval, sons James and Orval Jr., daughter Hazel Ashbach, sisters Phyllis Compton and Lynnette Burkhardt, granddaughter Krystal Harrison, and great-grandsons Jack Boorman and Memphis Harrison. Kaye is survived by her sister VaDonna McKim; her children: Karna Boorman, Kristy (Wes) Schimmel, Kevin Reeves, Jacque McNaughton, and Margaret (Roberto) Lopez; grandchildren: Tom, Brian, and James Ashbach, Matthew and Luke Reeves, Darcy (Reeves) Goodman, Will and Shay Boorman, Jon and Jeremiah Schimmel, Tiffany Hummel and Erika Tucker, Robyn, Vanessa and Brandon Lopez; great-grandchildren: Audrey, Madison, Logan, Benjamin, Evelyn, Joshua, Angel, Rozemariah, Bay, Peyton, Dakota, Taylor, Brett, Gannon, Alyssa, Eric, Simon, and Ryder; great-great grandchildren: Grace, JaKoby, and Aria; a cherished daughter in law Joan Reeves, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, including the medical staff who helped her through her difficult journey.
