Jimmy Martinez, born on August 27, 1953, in Rawlins, Wyoming, passed peacefully on February 13, 2025, in Casper, Wyoming, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who will be greatly missed by many.
Jimmy dedicated 42 years of his life to the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring from the Maintenance Department with an impeccable safety record. Throughout his career, he built several life-long relationships with his co-workers, many of whom became cherished friends.
Known for his great sense of humor and warm personality, Jimmy had a remarkable ability to connect with others. Whether he knew someone or made a new friend before leaving a gathering, he brightened every room he entered. His hardworking nature and commitment to family were evident in all he did. He was a loving father to his children and doted on his grandkids, always making time to attend their events and share in their joys. He often brought joy to their lives through special moments that included delicious lunches, thrilling rides, and treasured movie time together. No mater where he went, Jimmy always had his gloves with him.
Jimmy's passion for life extended beyond his family. He enjoyed yardwork, famously insisting on tackling it himself with the resolute phrase, "Leave it alone, I'll do it." He cherished watching University of Wyoming Football and the Miami Dolphins with Richie and family, and checking on his family’s favorite teams—including the Dallas Cowboys for Melody and James, Green Bay Packers for Mike, and Philadelphia Eagles for Cody. He found solace fishing the creeks of the Snowy Range, recounting vivid stories of his time on the railroad and fond reminiscences of the "old days."
His proudest accomplishments were undoubtedly his grandchildren, Michael Ails, Cody (Jessica) Ails, Jasper (Mariah) Martinez, Aden Martinez, Hailey Martinez, Lilly Martinez, Zade, Ashlyn, and Presley, as well as his great-grandchildren, Carter, Willow, and Wyatt. Jimmy leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and the values of hard work and friendship. He is survived by his daughter, Melody (James) Ails; son, Richie (Valerie) Martinez; sister, Caren Givens; brother, Bobby Martinez; aunts, Baudilia Martinez and Mary Martinez; uncle, Joe Martinez; along with several close friends, numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, and extended family members.
Jimmy now reunites with his beloved wife, Charlotte, who preceded him in death, as well as his father, Dennis, mother, Mela, and numerous family and friends. His absence leaves a significant void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his spirit will live on in the memories and stories shared by his family and loved ones.
A graveside service to honor Jimmy's remarkable life will begin at 11:00 AM on Friday, May 30th at the Rawlins Cemetery. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Jeffrey Center. He will forever be remembered for his unwavering love and the joyful moments he created for his family.
