Janet Ellen Hagglund

     Janet Ellen Hagglund of Mishawaka, Indiana passed away unexpectedly in Rawlins, Wyoming on September 9, 2022. She was 68 years old.

      Janet was born on November 9, 1953 in Mishawaka, Indiana to Owen Richard and Edith Broomall. She grew up in Mishawaka, attended and graduating from high school there. After high school, she attended Indiana University in South Bend, Indiana where she earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. She worked as a probation officer for three years before becoming tired of the “politics” and returned to Indiana University, where she completed her master’s degree in special education. Teaching children was her hearts calling. She taught Special Education at Elkhart Community Schools for 27 years before retiring. While teaching, she brought her dogs with her every day and used as them as motivators for the children, using time with the dogs as a reward for working hard and learning in while at school. Janet loved children and dogs, and the two gave her great pleasure. She also loved volleyball and was the girls’ volleyball coach for many years.

       Janet was a strong Christian who strong faith was shared with others daily through prayer and Bible study. She would spend time on the phone every day  with her friend and former teaching assistant, Mary Jackson, having bible study and praying for others. Janet had a beautiful heart. She always saw only the good in others. She was always kind and generous and wanted to do things for those she loved and cared about, especially her friends Cynthia Morris, Pat Reinhart and John Clark.

       Janet is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband Rob, whom she spent over 25 happy years together with; her sisters, Donna Broomall of Mishawaka, IN and Laura Broomall of South Bend, IN; her brother, Doug Broomall of Mishawaka, IN; her special dogs, Micah, Chloe and Abbigail and numerous extended family members. She was preceded by her parents, her foster son, Henry Dhunaway, her sister Karen Krassner Broomall and her brother, Dale Broomall.
