Gerald "Jerry" E. Banker, 85, of Rawlins, WY passed away January 21, 2015. He was born March 18, 1929, Hazard, NE to John Henry and "Ada" Emma Banker. Jerry was raised in Crawford, NE and worked at Ft. Robinson, NE when was growing up. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and attended Creighton University in Omaha, NE. He then worked in Omaha, NE and Denver, CO in lithography printing Ads and Posters. In 1957, he moved to Rawlins and started his career with the Wyoming Highway Department. He retired in 1988 after 31 years. After retirement from the highway department, he worked at the Rawlins Recreation Center for 7 years. He married Mary Ann Zimmerman in October of 1991. Ann and Jerry were inseparable, enjoying each day they were together. He was a communicant of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rawlins and was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion. The Rawlins Senior Center was an important aspect of Jerry's day to day activities and social life. He loved driving, drinking coffee, eating out with friends and reminiscing about highway projects he had been involved with. One on-going hobby included tracking his charitable mailings. Jerry is survived by his sister, Althea Frasier of Rawlins, WY; three step-sons, Robert Dan Zimmerman and wife, Georgia of Saratoga, WY, Richard Steven Zimmerman and wife, Joanne of Chandler, AZ and Thomas Dean Zimmerman and wife, Kimberly of Manassas, VA; grandsons, Benjamin Zimmerman of Chandler, AZ, Cody Zimmerman of Hampton, VA, Justin "Dan" Zimmerman and wife, Betsy of Norfolk, VA and Nicholas and Zachary Zimmerman of Manassas, VA; and a niece, Kathleen Frasier Myers of Mayetta, KS. He was preceded in death by his wife of 23 years, Mary Ann Banker; his parents; two brothers, Bill Howard Banker of Illinois and B. Wayne Banker of Crawford, NE. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Sat. January 31, 2015, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Father Sam Hayes will be the celebrant. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Knights of Columbus. Interment with military honors will follow in the Rawlins Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Jerry's memory to the St. Joseph Society for Retired Priests, P.O. Box 1468, Cheyenne, WY 82003-1468.
