Gary Lee Lester, 69, formerly of Red Feather, CO passed away suddenly at his home in Alcova, WY on Monday, October 2, 2017. Gary was born in Clarion, Iowa on January 1, 1948 and was the eldest son of Kenny and Hazel Lester. He attended Clarion High School before entering the Army and serving his country in Vietnam and Germany. He was a combat engineer during this time receiving an honorable discharge in 1969. He received the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Gary's name is on the Vietnam Memorial in Red Feather, CO honoring these veterans. After military service he worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic which continued until his retirement. Gary loved the wide open spaces and solitude afforded him in the western states. He was a motorcycle and ATV enthusiast, an avid NASCAR fan, a reader of western novels, and a quiet guy with a huge, loving heart for family and friends. He is survived by his son, Todd Sheller and wife Amy, grandchildren Michael and Matthew of CA; sisters, Linda (Dave) Bruening of NC, Renae (Michael) Duffey of AZ, Debra Tarvin of CO and brother, Kent (Sandy) of CO; his close friend and cousin, Lynn Lester, of CO; his aunts, Gladys Andershok, CO, Pauline Lester, IA, and uncles, George Dockwell, IA and Lyle Dockwell, OK along with nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Dixie Pavelka, and his brother in-law, Mark Tarvin. A celebration of life will be held in Colorado at a later date.
