Ernest Hicks

Ernest William "Ernie" Hicks, 73, of Rawlins passed away Feb. 21, 2017. He was born July 25, 1943 in Cheyenne, WY to parents Helen M. (Wallace) and Allen J. Hicks. A Memorial Service and luncheon will take place at the Elks Lodge # 609 at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 18, 2017. Everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Ernie's memory to W.E.S.T. P.O. Box 609, Rawlins, WY 82301. Ernie completed high school and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years. He then owned a gas station and later began a career in law enforcement with the Rawlins Police Dept., where he served from 1973 to 1978 as a Sergeant, then transferred to the Sheriff's Dept. He began as a Deputy and was later promoted to Sergeant, then Captain and retired after 32 years in law enforcement as the Undersheriff in Jan, 2005. His hobbies included boating at Seminoe, fishing, shooting guns, playing with and enjoying his beloved dogs, woodworking, remodeling, growing flowers and enjoying his yard. Survivors include his daughter, Nanci (Dale) Blackman; sons, Corey (Amy) Hicks and Tracy Hicks; brothers, Eugene Hicks and Richard Hicks; eight grandchildren, Keith Blackman, Aleigha Williams, Devin Williams, Aryn Hicks, Garrett Hicks, Kobe Hicks, Dylan Hicks and Zackary Hicks; two great-grandchildren, Azlyn Bressette and Xavier Blackman; his former wife and dear friend, Janice Autio; and his former daughter-in-law, Stephanie Albrechtson. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nancy Wilson; uncle, Bob Wallace; and grandson, Tennyson Hicks.
