Ernest Fagnant

Ernest A. "Ernie" Fagnant of Katy, TX and former long-time resident of Rawlins, passed away in his home on Wednesday, September 23, 2015. He was 91 years old. Rosary services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 29, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. The Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 30, in the Church. Final Commendation and Committal will take place at the Rawlins Cemetery immediately after the Mass. Pallbearers will be Matthew Fagnant, Shaun Fagnant, Karl Fagnant, Anthony Fagnant, Chris Fagnant and Gary Woodward. Honorary pallbearers will be Al Deist, Kurt Kelly and Ron Wilts. Ernie was born January 24, 1929 in Kemmerer, WY, the son of Leander and Eugenie Fagnant. He moved to Rawlins with his parents and family in 1939. He is a 1943 graduate of Rawlins High School. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II with the 304th Engineering Construction Battalion in the China-Burma-India Theater and again served during the Korean War with the 376th Corp of Engineers Detachment with the Fifth Army. He held the rank of Sergeant - Technician Fourth Grade for both tours of duty. Following his Army service, he owned and operated Ernie's Sinclair Service and Highway Alignment Shop for over 25 years. After closing his business, he worked for the Wyoming Highway Department for over 15 years as a heavy equipment mechanic and assistant shop foreman. Ernie retired from the Highway Department in 1987. Following retirement he was a volunteer at Carbon County Memorial Hospital for nearly 20 years. In 2008 Ernie and his wife Agnes moved to Sugar Land, TX and then Katy, TX to be closer to family Ernie was a lifetime member of the Rawlins Elk Lodge # 609, was a lifetime member of the Rawlins VFW Post #2311, was a member of the Rawlins Volunteer Fire Department for over 25 years and was a former member of the Knights of Columbus. While his sons were young he was active in Little League Baseball, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. For most of his life he was able to enjoy fishing, hunting and camping with his family in the Snowy Range and Battle Creek areas of the Medicine Bow National Forest. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Agnes Fagnant of Katy, TX; sons Michael Fagnant and his wife Cindy of Katy, TX and David Fagnant of Owasso, OK; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two nephews and one niece. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leander and Eugenie, his brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Annette Fagnant, and his daughter-in-law, Pam Fagnant. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in the memory of Ernest A. Fagnant to the VFW of Wyoming.
