Dan Wallis

April 13, 1936 — January 27, 2017

Dan Louis Wallis. Born April 13, 1936, in Laramie, WY to Orval and Nellie White Wallis, died January 27, 2017 in the Rawlins Hospital, WY. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Lockhart Wallis of Saratoga, WY, a daughter, Dani d'Arge of Paris, KY, a granddaughter, Dahlia d'Arge of Lexington, KY, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by both parents, an infant daughter, Marilynn, his sister, Laura Ellis, and a brother, Roy. Dan was raised and attended schools in Albany County, graduating from Laramie High School in 1954. He was active in sports including football. He also showed and sold livestock while in the Albany County 4-H programs. In 1956, Dan joined the US Army and retired honorably in 1957 with disability. Dan was very proud of his military service and was a longstanding active member of the Angus England American Legion Post #54 in Saratoga. After his active military service ended, he returned to the family ranch on Pass Creek where he entered into a partnership with his parents. In September 1959, he married Nancy Lockhart at Grace Chapel in Laramie, WY. They welcomed a daughter, Dani Lynn, into their lives in 1962. The family maintained a home on the family ranch until it was sold in 2008. The family enjoyed ranch life on Pass Creek. Dan was also a master welder and equipment mechanic, skills which kept the machinery of the ranch and of neighboring ranches running for many years. A proud member of the Wyoming ranching community, Dan was member of the Elk Club and the Wyoming Stockgrowers Association. Dan lived life to the fullest. Over the years, Dan and Nancy enjoyed traveling, particularly to Mexico and the Caribbean where he learned to scuba dive and do underwater photography. He also spent many a weekend rafting the Platte River and windsurfing on the Saratoga Lake. His interest in water recreation earned him his handle of "Captain Dan." Anyone wishing to make donations in his memory may consider Pet Partners of Carbon County, P.O. Box 4000, Rawlins, WY, 82301. No services will be held at this time, however, a family memorial celebration of his life will take place this summer.
