Charlotte Martinez

Eleanor "Charlotte" Martinez died March 22, 2015 at her home in Rawlins at the age of 61. Charlotte was born January 10, 1954 in Rawlins to Jake and Grace Cruz. She grew up in Rawlins and graduated from Rawlins High School in 1972. She married Jimmy Martinez in Rawlins on September 2, 1972. Together they had two children, Melody and Richard. They were married for 42 years. Her family remembers her as a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She was a stay at home wife and mother. In later years she worked as a custodian at the Carbon County Counseling Center for 26 years, and as a waitress at Su Casa and Lariat. She played softball and bowled on teams here in Rawlins. She had friends of many ages. She loved being with her family and friends. Charlotte enjoyed camping, baking for her family, and watching her grandkids grow. She loved them a lot! She liked to watch football and baseball. Her favorite teams were the Denver Broncos and the Wyoming Cowboys. She was president of the La Junta Club. She would try to help anyone she could, and always had a smile. Survivors include her daughter, Melody, and son-in-law, James Ails, of Arkansas; son, Richard, and daughter-in-law, Crystal Martinez, of Rawlins; seven grandchildren, Michael and Cody Ails, of Arkansas, Jasper, Aden, Hailey, and Lilly Martinez, of Rawlins, and Dantea Helms, of Texas; her husband, Jimmy, of Rawlins; sisters, Fedencia (Alfonso) Bustos, Frances Archuleta, Sylvia (Charles) Montoya, all of Rawlins; brothers, Gene Cruz, of Denver, Leroy Cruz, Gilbert (Beverly) Cruz, David Cruz, Ben (Sara) Cruz, also all of Rawlins, Herman Cruz, of Cheyenne; a lot of nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Grace Cruz; her father-in-law, Dennis Martinez; brothers, Neri and Ernest Cruz; and nephew, Mike Wilcox. Services will be held on Thursday, March 26th, at 11 a.m. at the Jeffrey Center in Rawlins. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, Michael Ails, Cody Ails, Jasper Martinez, and Aden Martinez. Interment will follow in the Rawlins Cemetery.
