Carl Ogburn

Carl Andrew Ogburn, 60, was bom on January 21, 1955, the son of Charles "Chuck" Ogburn and Florence "Flossy" Ogburn. He passed away in Glendale, Arizona, on January 7, 2016, following illness. Carl grew up in Rawlins where he graduated from Rawlins High School in 1973. He attended college in Rapid City, South Dakota, thereafter being drawn to the music field where he performed and toured extensively throughout the country with the band he helped put together and manage. He additionally had a love for cooking and gravitated toward culinary pursuits, graduating from chef school in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was subsequently associated with a variety of restaurants and hotels, throughout Wyoming and Colorado, spending some years with University of Wyoming food service establishments. Following in some family footsteps, he worked as a Deputy Sheriff with the Carbon County Sheriff's Office. When declining health prevented more active involvements, he returned to his passion for music, hosting and performing with karaoke entertainment in Wyoming and Arizona. He had just founded a new group in the Phoenix, Arizona, area at the time of his passing. Carl's life was filled with many varied and rich experiences. He enjoyed skiing and motorcycle riding in his younger years. In his career, he was fortunate that the things of which he was so fond turned out to be the work he did. Through his music and considerable talent, he was able to live what he loved and encountered many memorable adventures in his travels. His delight in cooking brought him much joy in sharing his tasty creations with others, both personally and professionally. Many will savor the memory of these treats with pleasure and gratitude. He will be much remembered for his special sense of humor and quick wit. That recollection will bring many a smile to all who knew him. His friends were very meaningful to him and recalling the devoted loyalty he held for them will be a fond remembrance to be treasured. Carl has been a blessing to his loved ones with his loving heart and caring spirit. And those who cared for him are sure to affirm how their lives have been enriched because Carl was in them. He brought happiness to the lives of many who crossed his path and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister Susan (Ogburn) (and husband Jess) Oyler of Cheyenne, Wyoming; children Curt (and wife Michele) Ogbum of Torrington, Wyoming, Chad Ogburn of Aspen, Colorado, Charlene "Charli" Griffith of Newcastle, Colorado, and six grandchildren Karly, Dutch, Caislyn, C. J., Bailey, and Harley. He was preceded in passing by his parents, Charles "Chuck" Wesley Ogburn and Florence "Flossy" Audrey Johnson Ogburn and his grandparents. Memorial donations may be made to Valley Christian School; 2441 East E; Torrington, WY, 82240, (where Carl's grandchildren attend) or to the charity of your choice. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 5, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Rawlins with graveside services to follow at the Rawlins Cemetery. Father Michael Glor of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Cheyenne will officiate. A reception will follow in the undercroft at St. Thomas.
