Rawlins

Benino (Ben) Sanchez died peacefully in the comfort of his home in Rawlins, Wyoming on November 14, 2024 at the age of 94. Born in Chama, Colorado to Joe and Tomacita Sanchez on October 3, 1930, the eldest of five children. Ben moved to Rawlins in 1935 and was a graduate of Rawlins High School, class of 1949. He married his high school sweetheart, Bernice Sisneros, in 1951. Ben joined the U.S. Marine Corp and fought in the Korean War. When he returned in 1954, he found employment with Patchen Roofing. He worked 33 years for Patchen Roofing when he decided to retire. Retirement was not for the hard-working Ben. He began employment with the City of Rawlins, Parks & Recreation Department. He was part of the personnel that maintained and cared for the Rawlins cemetery. He enjoyed this job very much and retired for a second time.

Ben truly loved and enjoyed the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and camping. You could always find him working in his beautiful yard. He also enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and watching football. He was a devoted family man and would do anything and everything for his wife, daughters and grandchildren.

Ben was a lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, a past member of the Knights of Columbus, a 45-year member of the American Legion and was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul.

Ben is survived by Bernice, his wife of 73 years, daughters Terri Martinez, Barbara (Vergil) Casados, Susan Sanchez, Margaret (Paul) Larson, grandchildren, Jamie (William) Mack, Steven Langwell (Brianna Slater), Lucy Larson, Samuel Larson; great-grandchildren, Keiona Mack, Maria Mack (Jordan Turner), Benino Mack, Amelia Langwell, Adelyn Hinz and great-great grandchild, Ella Turner. He is also survived by ten nieces and nephews and his youngest brother, Joe Sanchez of Arizona.
